Waiting for Godot & No Man's Land Star Ian McKellen Ready to Leave Broadway With a 'Bang'

Tony winner, Olivier winner and Oscar nominee Sir Ian McKellen is currently starring in Waiting for Godot and No Man’s Land in repertory at the Cort Theare and says that this may be his last appearance on the Great White Way. The legendary actor told Entertainment Weekly,  “I think this will be my last outing to Broadway, probably, so I might as well go out with a bang doing two plays in wonderful company.”

That company of course happens to include Tony nominee and McKellen’s good friend, Sir Patrick Stewart. The two actors and X-men costars have long been pals and McKellen even officiated Stewart’s wedding in September.

When it comes to his costar, McKellen shares, “We make each other laugh. I think that’s always a good sign of a friendship. And inside that very stern exterior that Patrick sometimes has, there’s a very sweet-natured lad who I can get through to and we just enjoy it.”

McKellen earned a Tony Award for Amadeus and an additional nomination for Ian McKellen: Acting Shakespeare. His other Broadway credits include Dance of Death, Wild Honey, The Promise and his solo show Ian McKellen: A Night Out at the Lyceum. Known as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, McKellen’s additional film and TV credits include Stardust, The Prisoner, Coronation Street and Gods and Monsters.
